Anesthesia

Succinylcholine chloride is not a true anesthetic and does not impair the sensory organs. Succinylchloline is NOT approved for any use in any animal at ASU without anesthesia.

Ketamine hydrochloride is a fast acting disassociative anesthetic with a wide margin of safety and may be employed with a large variety of wildlife, including small carnivores, bears, birds and rodents. For appropriate dosages for species check the IACUC Policies and Procedures Handbook or call ASU's University Veterinarian.

M99 - oripavine derivative - Etorphine is considered to be one of the most versatile agents available today for the chemical immobilization of exotic ruminants. M99 is chemically related to morphine with the analgesic properties of morphine but with fewer side effects of the narcotic drug. The clinical effects of M99 can be reversed rapidly by employing any one of four specific antagonists to produce rapid and nearly complete reversal of the clinical immobilizing effects and include: M50-50 (Diprenorphine), M285 (Cyprenorphine), Nalorphine hydrobromide (Naline), and Naloxone HCl (Narcan).
